Best of 2019 - Day 7 - Tiannamen Square

Back in October, ended a SE Asia trip with four crazy days in Beijing. I accidentally stayed in a ‘love hotel’ with a round bed. I went to the great wall with a Chinese hip-hop artist and ended the night in the dj booth of a club. More on that later. These photos are from Tiannamen Square. In 1989, it was the epicenter of a massive uprising in which a man played chicken with a tank and won. In 2019, it is the epicenter of millions of Chinese tourists snapping selfies. I happened to be strolling through after visiting the Forbidden City (directly behind Mao) and lucked into the flag lowering ceremony. It was fine. Troops marched in formation and police herded us tourists around like sheep. China was bonkers and I can’t wait to go back.

Travel Tip - I used airwander.com to find my layover. You type in where you’re going and how long of a layover you want and they give you options and list how much more or less your ticket will be. I saved money by hanging out in Beijing for a bit. It was definitely worth it.
